The Island C is an all steel 80′ x 21 twin screw, house forward research vessel. It was built in 1971 by Graham shipyards in Pascagoula, MS. It was built as a supply and tender vessel for service in the Gulf of Mexico, and was converted for service in Alaska in the late 1990s.
